The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a call for expressions of interest from teachers, academics, and authors willing to write textbooks for undergraduate-level courses in arts, science, commerce, and social sciences. UGC Secretary Manish Joshi, in a letter to higher education institutions, announced that interested individuals can apply directly to the UGC for consideration.
Professor Joshi's letter specifically invites applications for writing textbooks in 12 Indian languages, including Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar stated that the initiative aims to provide high-quality textbooks in regional languages for undergraduate courses in alignment with the goals outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.
To facilitate this effort, nodal universities in different states will be identified to coordinate the formation of author teams. These teams will be responsible for creating textbooks in the specified Indian languages. The UGC encourages interested authors to register by submitting expressions of interest, with the deadline for applications set for January 30.
